Cool Spiderman Birthday Cake

My son William wanted a Spiderman cake. I thought it would be cool if I did a Spiderman Birthday cake in the shape of #8. The entire cake is frost with buttercream.  Although it is a time-consuming cake, at the end it was well worth it.

For this particular cake, I only used two main colors: black and red. To make things easier, I purchased an already made buttercream, and a Spiderman cake topper.

I simply baked two cakes in the same size. I cut and shaped into the number 8. I frosted the cake with a thin layer of buttercream and then refridgerate for about ten minutes. This will provide a crumb coat for easier frosting and decorating.

Frosting ready

I tinted some buttercream red.  You will use a lot of tint to get the proper red. I applied a generous layer of buttercream on the cake.

In order to smooth out the cake, I used a paper towel to smooth out the entire cake.  This helps give the cake a finished look.

The “Web”

I tinted some buttercream in black and piped in the “web”.  After setting the cake topper in the middle of the cake, I lined up the web to match the lines of the cake topper. It tuned out great as a guide for me. I did use a toothpick to line up any imperfections.

I placed the cake topper in the center.

The finished product

The cake was an absolute huge hit.  It took a lot of time, steady hands, and patience but everyone was awed by it.  William was so happy!!

At last, time to blow out the candles.
