50 is Fabulous Cupcake Stiletto Cake!

I’m pretty proud of this stiletto cake. It was my first attempt at a cake of this magnitude.   The stiletto heels were made out of fondant and cupcakes. A challenge? Absolutely and I don’t want to toot my own horn, but it’s not too shabby for a non professional.  I had no idea what I was doing. I only had a picture in my mind that I needed to make a reality. Thank heavens for YouTube. Right!?!

The bottom layer is a simple strawberry custard vanilla cake, but because the birthday girl loved both chocolate and vanilla I made the shoebox a chocolate fudge cherry filled cake. Hey! If you’re 50 and fabulous you get to indulge and have whatever you want.

This was a cake for a surprise birthday party. I am not sure what was more difficult to do, the cake or the transportation of the cake.  All I kept saying to myself the whole 30 minute drive was  “please, please, please do not let someone tap me from behind or slam on their brakes in front of me.”  So, I put the four ways on, stayed in the slow lane and made faces at all the angry people blowing by me at way too fast of speeds. Obviously they were not transporting cakes in their vehicles.  Holy! Talk about nerve tingling, edge of your seat driving. It could have been the longest 30 minutes of my life.

Everything turned out extremely well. The cake was a complete success!  Everyone loved it and most importantly the birthday girl absolutely adored the cake.  It is not easy to make a cake for someone you do not know personally, but apparently I “hit it out of the park”  so much that I have received another order for an 80th birthday cake coming up.

I cannot wait to let my imagination run wild yet again.

Cheers!
