Coolest Gum Ball Machine Cake

I made this Gum Ball Machine cake for my grandfather’s birthday one year.  I had seen something similar online and had been dying to try my own version and this was my first opportunity. The top is an 8 inch round. The bottom is an 8 inch square cut slightly angled at the sides. The red parts could have been fondant, but I have never worked with it before, so I chose to use the sheets of colored edible frosting. I stuck gumballs on the top.

I decorated the bottom to look like a coin slot and crank with some golden colored gel frosting.  Silver would look good too, maybe even better. I used a gold chocolate coin to put in the coin slot and scattered a few round the cake also. I put some gum balls on the bottom ready to be scooped up and eaten just like out of a real gum ball machine.
